One day, my wife got a call from a friend — a single mom living in low-income housing who couldn't afford a $200 bill.

It struck me how different $200 can feel depending on your situation.

For one person, it might be a few dinners out or a Costco run. For someone going through a difficult season, it could mean keeping the lights on, fixing their car, buying groceries, or making rent.

What if landlords used a small piece of what real estate has given them to help the people renting from them?

I had already been looking for a way to give back through real estate. That conversation gave me the answer.
